The usual causes are early key use, parking a block in a shared passage, and selecting a visually easy color without checking its exit. Each move removes future options before the route is ready.

How do you catch it early?

After every major move, scan the next destination and the only lane that reaches it. If that lane is occupied or its key is unavailable, stop before adding more moves.

What should you learn from a failed attempt?

Record the first move that reduced access. That is more useful than counting the later moves, which are often consequences of the original route error.
